The Royal Wedding at the Delta Bessborough

I remember watching Kate and William’s wedding a few years ago.  Though I did not get up in the middle of the night to watch it live, I do remember watching it (once I got out of bed at a normal time) and being so excited to see every detail. The fancy outfits, the fascinators, the tuxedos, the top hats, the decor and of course the bride’s dress.

I love weddings. I have loved weddings for as long as I can remember.  I still love weddings even after being a Wedding Planner for a couple years (I just realized that my talent did not lie in the planning.. but rather the capturing of the day with photography).  So of course a Royal Wedding really tweaked my interest.  And what better way to watch the wedding, than to stay overnight at the Bess with a bunch of girlfriends, dress up and watch the event live whilst eating fancy food? Yah, I was totally down for that idea!!

The morning of the Harry & Megan’s wedding I got up at 3 am. Not even with an alarm clock – probably because I kept scaring myself by thinking I slept through the whole event.. So at 3:15am I slowly got up, made a cup of tea, curled my hair, put on make up, clipped in my fascinator and put on my fancy dress.  I love dressing up, and I guess I still love dressing up even at 3am.

The hotel was very quiet at 4am.. not a soul in the hallways or on the elevator but you could hear the buzz of last minute details in the set up.  RSVP Event Design sure knows how to design the perfect Royal Event!  The Adams Ballroom was so very elegant.  Draped with white organza from the ceiling and the sparkly chandeliers and beautiful gold and floral centrepieces, it was as if this room was an extension of the wedding that we were about to watch.

At 4:30am the ladies were lined up out the door.  Yes that is correct Lined up!

RSVP Event Design had pulled out all the stops. There was a harpist playing the most inviting and relaxing music as you entered the room… they hired an 18th century wedding couple  who were walking around greeting the guests (they even cut the wedding cake!).  There was a beautiful array of scones with clotted cream and jams, cheeses and meats, fruit platters and all sorts of pastries.  To the right was a photo booth with a backdrop of roses and there was even a mimosa bar…  Up at the front of the room were delicious goodies like macarons and petit fours and of course, what kind of celebration would it be with out a cake… so we had our very own wedding cake, which was lemon. It was amazing!!

We all sat excitedly eating our delicious 5 am breakfast and watching everyone proceed into the church…. fancy hats, pretty dresses, a celebrity here and there… and then Megan’s car pulled up.  You could almost feel Prince Harry’s anticipation every time the camera focused on his face at the front of the church.. (the nerves always start to bubble a little at this point).  As she stepped out of the car I felt like I needed a pause button, just to really see her dress.  Did I like it? Did I feel like it suited her? was this what I imagined or envisioned she’d wear..  but that moment was quickly taken over by the adorable little face of the page boy holding her veil.  As the doors to the church opened to Megan in her grand entrance all you could see was this kid and his big smiley grin.  It was absolutely Priceless!

As Megan made her way through the church and down the aisle it almost felt like a beautiful dance.  The opera singer set the stage and all of our eyes were on the bride.  When Megan finally reached the front of the church she joined hands with Harry.  They exchanged sighs of relief – they made it… Time to get married.

It was just as a royal wedding should be.  Extravagant, beautiful and exciting… filled with fancy outfits, elegant music, exquisite decor and a touch of magic.

I wish these two a very happy ever after!

Here are some photos from this FANTASTIC event! A big Thank you to the hotel for hosting and to RSVP Event Design for Coordinating the whole thing.  It was unforgettable!

My outfit all set up the night before…

Here is me at 3:45 am

The morning before the wedding I had the chance to do an interview with Leisha Grebinski on the CBC Radio 94.1 fm.  We discussed the upcoming event at the Bessborough and The Royal wedding details.
